Nicole & Don Cumarco Make It # 4 in SA Derby

Nicole Horwood and Mark White Nissan’s Capital Don Cumarco jumped to victory in the 2016 Kawena South African Derby in front of an enthusiastic and excited crowd at Kyalami Park.

Twenty-four of the country’s top horse and rider combinations treated the capacity crowd to jumping of the highest quality over one of the most testing courses in South African show jumping.

Three riders went clear in the first round to set-up a very exciting jump-off.

SA Derby debutants Graham Winn and Maxstar Obi Wan Kinobi jumped first and went clear in a time of 47.24 seconds.

2008 Winner Lisa Williams then went clear on Discovery Campbell in 44.01 seconds.

The stage was set for triple Derby winner Nicole Horwood and Don Cumarco to make history and become the first horse and rider combination to win the Derby 4 times, and they did not disappoint.

They blitzed around the jump-off course in a faultless round in a very quick time of 41.81 seconds.

The crowd went wild, including Don Cumarco’s groom, who did a very entertaining dance in front of an ecstatic crowd.
